RACE RETRO SALE SHOWCASES CLASS COLLECTION

With the catalogue now closed, more than 80 stunning cars have been confirmed for the Silverstone Auctions hosted Race Retro & Classic Car Sale which takes place at Stoneleigh Park on Saturday 23rd February.
Befitting the theme of the weekend, nearly a third of the cars on offer boast competition pedigree from the race track or rally stage, while the 55 road-going models span some six decades.
Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions said: “The Race Retro & Classic Car Sale is a must-attend auction for those looking for their next dream car or even their first affordable classic. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for any serious collector to add to an existing collection, or those seeking an investment opportunity.”
Among those race models particularly catching the eye is a 1953 Connaught AL10 Historic Grand Prix car once driven by Roy Salvadori and estimated at between £200,000 and £250,000. It is joined by another British grand prix car from the same year, a Cooper Bristol estimated at between £140,000 to £160,000.
Also worthy of gracing any race circuit in the world is a 1969 Lola T70 MkIII B that appeared in the cult Steve McQueen movie “Le Mans”, estimated at between £570,000 to £650,000.
Classic road-going models especially worthy of closer inspection include a one family owned from new 1967 Aston Martin DB6, estimated at between £110,000 to £130,000, a very rare 1960 Lancia Appia GTE Zagato, estimated at between £50,000 to £60,000, and a left-hand drive1965 Jaguar E-Type Series 1½ Roadster 4.2, estimated at £52,000 to £58,000.
Meanwhile, more unusual lots include a 1962 Leyland Routemaster red double-decker bus, estimated at between £20,000 to £28,000, and a 1995 Austin FX4 ‘Fairway’ London Taxi, offered without reserve.
“Silverstone Auctions is very excited to bring this fine collection of cars to auction at our Race Retro Sale. The icing on the cake is that we’ve also got some fascinating automobilia lots on offer, as well as a handful of classic motorbikes,” added Nick.
