Renault Capturs a bit of fun

Renault began work on the Captur compact crossover in 2009 just as the financial crisis began to bite. "So we wanted to put the joy of life into the car," said Ali Kassai, head of small cars.
The 'joy of life'  means the two-tone colours and replaceable seat covers. The covers can be unzipped to be washed or completely replaced if owners want a fresh look for their car.
Apart from the two-tone outside colour, buyers get a choice of six interior colours. Even the steering wheel can be personalised with coloured insets.
The two-tone paintwork is achieved by sending the cars twice round the paint shop at Valladolid in Spain. "We have the capacity there so it makes commercial sense to do that,' said Kassai.
The Captur replaces the Modus in Renault's line-up.
"We had already defined the car by the time Nissan launched the Juke in 2010," he said. The B segment continues to evolve with cars becoming very adaptable with features from higher segments but at lower prices. It is a challenge, he acknowledged, but so was the first Scenic 20 years ago.
